6 Easy Ways To Create A Play Area In Your Living Room
1. Add Play Mats To The Play Area | YAY Play Mats
You definitely want to start with getting play mats for the play area. One of the first things I searched for when designing my daughter’s at-home play area play mats. Playmats can be expensive, I was so excited when I found these super cute play mats for her learning space!
Playmats are a great addition to any play area or playroom, especially if you have wood floors. My little one spends a lot of time on the floor, moving around and exploring. So I wanted something that could stand the test of time, toxic-free, and be comfortable for her as well.

2. Play Room Wall Decor | Etsy
What’s a play area, or even a playroom without wall decor. Depending on your toddler’s playroom vibes you can find some really inexpensive downloadable posters on Etsy or even Amazon! All you would need to do is download, print, and hang them up.
If you’re looking for wall decor that is ready to put up right away, here are a few really good options for that as well.
3. PlayShelf With Storage | Lovevery
Adding a play shelf is a great start to displaying all your little ones’ toys. If you are into the Montessori method and toy rotation then a play shelf Is definitely something you want to add to your play area. When looking for a play shelf, I wanted to find one that had some sort of storage as well. This Loevevry play shelf offers just that, a sleek design and complete storage system on the back of the shelf>

4. Book Shelf For Play Area
If your tot is a little bookworm like my daughter, then you will definitely want to add a bookshelf to your little ones’ play area. A bookshelf is a great solution for storing all your little ones’ books, but it also allows for toddlers to really see the book from the front ( rather than the side of the book). This is great when you encourage daily storytime with little ones. If they can see the book in its entirety, then they are more likely to pick it up and want to read it.
Here are a few of my favorite Book Recommendations

5. Developmental Toys
Finding the right toys for your toddler’s play area can get overwhelming. There as so many toys on the market, it’s almost overwhelming! It is important to look for toys that are age-appropriate and safe for toddlers. As your child grows you will continue to add more toys and rotate toys out.
Toys can be very expensive, Im a huge fan of the Montessori method. Montessori toys can be pretty pricey. So I always like to find alternatives when I can, without compromising on the quality. Im a huge fan of the lovevery monthly play kits, I’ve been a monthly subscriber since my daughter was 4 months old, it has been the best toy investment yet!

6. Pick The Right Spot For The Play Area
Lastly, finding the right spot to set up the play area is key. You don’t need an extra bedroom in order to set up an enriched play area for your toddlers. I for one, believe in setting up a play area that is connected to the room where the family spends most of their time.
I picked a spot in our living room that was next to a good amount of sunlight, the area is also accessible from the main living area which is perfect for me! I can do some light housework, while she plays.
